Lake Awoonga Caravan Park

The home of peace, quiet and really big fish!

Lake Awoonga is situated 8 kms off the Bruce Highway on Awoonga Dam Road, Benaraby, just south of the Gladstone turn-off. 

The Caravan Park is set up high overlooking the beautiful Awoonga Dam and provides Cabins, Powered and Unpowered Sites, Camp Kitchens, Amenities, Communal Fire Pits and green open spaces.  There is a small kiosk that sells souvenirs, ice creams, snacks, coffee, bait, ice, fishing gear and grocery items.

The Lake Awoonga Recreation Area, including the caravan park is a wildlife sanctuary, therefore, no pets are allowed.

The park is a short walk or drive to the Lake where guests can enjoy a series of activities centred around the amazing Lake Awoonga. Fish, swim, ski, boat, explore, bird watch or just sit back, relax and take in the lovely landscapes and sensational scenery.

There is no boat or kayak hire at the Lake, so bring your own or book a Charter with the local experts.

Fish, Ski, Swim or Boat

The park boasts excellent views overlooking Lake Awoonga, which is famous for barramundi fishing, skiing and sailing. The Lake is stocked with Barra, Saratoga and Sea Mullet.

Lake Awoonga is a native refuge, offering plenty of native Australian wildlife, such as wallabies, possums, bandicoots, bats and gliders. Lake Awoonga, a dream of an ornithologist, offers both Squatter Pigeon and the Red Goshawk sightings, housing one of the largest and important near-coast bird refuges in South East Queensland.

Lake Awoonga is surrounded by scenic walking trails that start at the caravan park and follow the shoreline of the dam around to a picnic area with shelter sheds, toilets, playgrounds and a BBQ pavilion. These stunning trails are easy going and a lovely way to spend the day.
